Russia says its navy chief was removed following setbacks in the Black Sea.

On Tuesday, Russian official media reported that the Kremlin has replaced the head of the country’s navy in response to a series of incidents in which Ukrainian forces were successful in attacking the Black Sea fleet of Russia. During the events that were held to commemorate Submariner Day in Kronshtadt, which is both a town and a naval facility on Kotlin Island, just west of St. Petersburg, Adm. Alexander Moiseyev was officially unveiled for the first time as the acting commander in chief of the Russian Navy. This was reported by the state news agency TASS.

Moiseyev was born on April 16, 1962 in Borskoye, which is located in the Kaliningrad region. According to his biography published by the Russian Defense Ministry, he had served “for many years in nuclear submarines of the Northern Fleet from combat element group engineer to missile submarine commander, submarine force commander, and submarine forces commander.”

According to the Defense Ministry, Moiseyev was honored with the title of Hero of the Russian Federation in 2011. This honor was bestowed upon him in recognition of the bravery and bravery he displayed while doing his duties. According to the ministry, he has also been honored with a considerable number of other prizes and medals, in addition to receiving two orders of courage.

It has been reported by TASS that Adm. Nikolay Yevmenov has been replaced by Moiseyev. The future of Yevmenov had been the topic of debate for some weeks due to Russia’s recurrent incidents of defeat in the Black Sea. In spite of the fact that the situation on the frontlines of the ground fighting between Russia and Ukraine has remained unchanged for several months, with the exception of a few triumphs attributed to Russia, the accomplishments that the Ukrainian military has achieved in the Black Sea have been a source of optimism.

A month ago, Ukraine asserted that it had damaged a third of the Russian Black Sea fleet through attacks, the majority of which employed underwater drones. It is the intention of the salvos to cut off the Crimean Peninsula from the rest of Ukraine in order to make it more challenging for Russia to maintain its military activities on the peninsula and on the Ukrainian mainland. Since Moscow illegally invaded Crimea ten years ago, the strikes there bear both symbolic and geopolitical significance. This is because the attacks were carried out in violation of international law.

In addition, the relocation of Russia’s navy has made it possible for Kyiv to establish a maritime corridor that will facilitate the export of grain and other commodities to the international market.

Despite this, the Kremlin has redoubled its efforts to strengthen the Black Sea Fleet in response to the casualties that have occurred. During his visit to the command post of the Black Sea Fleet, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu practically confessed that Ukraine had exploited vulnerabilities in the Black Sea Fleet. Shoigu is said to have issued an order to the Russian navy to increase the firepower of war ships in order to combat drones operated by the Ukrainian government and to train personnel “during the day and at night,” as stated in a statement released by the ministry.
